Summer VolunTEEN

volunTEEN application

Who can apply? 

  • Teens ages 13-18,
  • Those who can commit to volunteering for at least 16 hours during the summer
  • Those who have permission from a parent or guardian
  • Those who have transportation to the library

What do volunteers do?

  • Tidy library areas and assist with shelving (must be able to alphabetize!)
  • Help with youth events
  • Tend to library book drop regularly
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned

Why should I volunteer?

  • Learn job skills and values
  • Make a difference in your community
  • Feel good about yourself
  • Make friends and have fun!

How do I apply?

  1. Print and fill out the Summer VolunTEEN Application. Turn in your completed application at the Youth Services desk by March 30.
  2. You will be contacted for an interview if there is a current position available.
  3. After the interview, accepted volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation before the VolunTEEN summer experience begins.

Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. There are a limited number of positions available, and unfortunately, we may not be able to accept everyone who applies.

Media Shelver

Shelve and straighten DVDs, CDs, and games.  
Qualifications: Age 16 and older; ability to stand for the hour; ability to push a cart weighing 30 pounds; bend and stretch.  Able to commit to 6 months of service.

Youth Services Shelf Reader

Makes sure books are in call number order, reshelves misplaced books, and straightens books on the shelves.Qualifications: Age 16 and older; Must be able to stand for a period of time; stretch and bend; Must have prior knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system, or a willingness to learn.
